I chose to work with the Lapis Lazuli set as well as the Fall Harvest set. Basically beautiful blues and subtle yellows. I mean how could I go wrong with these beauties!
I laid down my alcohol inks on yupo paper along with some alcohol to get the inks moving. I tried to work in a gradient from blue to yellow allowing them to mix for the pretty green tones.
Once I was happy with my colors and the piece was entirely dry I got ready to heat emboss. Heat embossing on yupo paper is extremely tricky because Yupo isn’t actually paper. It’s made from polypropylene resin, which is essentially plastic. The heat required to melt the embossing powder can actually melt the paper itself.
Start by treating your alcohol inked piece with an antistatic tool then stamp in embossing in. Yupo is slick so I like to use a stamp positioner but if you’re using an acrylic block go straight down and straight back up to avoid smearing. Add your embossing powder, in my card I used white. Now here’s some tips for making this work:
1. Preheat your heat gun so it’s very hot
2. Bring the gun to the paper but keep your distance. I’m talking at least 5-7inches
3. Keep your heat gun moving at all times.
4. BE PATIENT
The process takes awhile because we are building up the heat slowly.
5. Once you see some powder starting to melt bring your heat gun closer for a second, I mean one second, then quickly move away.
It really is quite the dance but the results are worth it in the end!
After the heat embossing cooled I die cut the flowers out with the companion dies and then arranged them over a panel I had stamped with the Pinstripe Background using Mountain Mist.
You can see the entire process in the video below
Thanks so much for stopping by! Your next stop on the hop is the endlessly talented Michelle Short
