Hello Crafters!
Do you prefer Hot Foiling, Deco Foiling, or Heat Embossing? Today we are doing all three! I really wanted to show you that no matter what craft supplies you have on hand you can create a beautiful metallic shine that you’ll be happy with! Anything foil or metallic is notoriously difficult to photograph so I tried to include a side shot of each card where you can actually see the shine.
The first card is nice and easy using the Glimmer Hot Foil Machine. I used the same navy cardstock for all of today’s cards. I’m a blue girl, can’t help myself 🙂 I first hot foiled the background using some Prism foil and the Foiled Flakes. Originally, I chose to hot foil my sentiment directly over my background but there wasn’t enough contrast.
I chose Skybrite, a gorgeous light blue, and hot foiled it before cutting it out. The sentiment was added with foam tape over the background which was matted on Artic cardstock. A few rhinestones finished the card off.
Our second card uses Deco Foil. Now, usually you need toner for the foil to work. Don’t get me wrong toner cardstock is great but not everyone has it. Here I used clear embossing powder as my “toner” for the foil to adhere to. For the snowflake die cuts I covered white cardstock in clear embossing powder, heat set it, die cut my snowflakes, and then ran them through my laminator with my Opal Foil. I found best results with covering the cardstock with embossing powder twice for a super smooth surface.
I did the same technique for the sentiment but this time I stamped in embossing ink. Heat set it in clear and then ran it through with some turquoise foil. I used the coordinating die to cut it out. Do you see those gorgeous rhinestones? They change color guys!! I absolutely love them.
The last card uses the most common craft supply and arguably the least expensive, embossing powder. For these cards I used Iridescent Blue to mimic the look of the foils we’ve used in the other cards. I die cut my snowflakes out of navy cardstock and then covered them with clear embossing ink. This time I used the blue embossing powder instead of the clear. These iridescent embossing powders are fantastic but they really shine of darker colored cardstock.
I used a die cut sentiment from the Simply Sentimental Merry & Christmas sets on more Nautical and Arctic cardstock. For this card I used only the Reflecting Sky rhinestones and it’s my favorite!
You can see all the cards come together in the video below
I hope today’s video showed you that no matter what kind of supplies you have on hand you can still create something beautiful!
