Magic Coloring with 3D Embossing Folders

I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving! The holiday has me a bit backed up on blogging. I guess I still need more time to get back into the swing of it!

3D Embossing folders have been on the market for quite awhile and I love them. However, I’m a girl who loves color and they can be a bit challenging to get color on. I’m also a girl who love shimmer and with that in mind I decided to see if I should get a shimmer colorful result using my 3D embossing folders and it turns out you can!

I started by embossing my my folders onto some black cardstock. This technique works best on darker colored cardstock. In order to get a deep impression be sure to spritz the back of your paper with a little water. Once they were embossed I used a brayer to add clear embossing ink to the high points. You can also use white pigment ink if you don’t have embossing ink.

Now it’s time to add the color! For this I used Perfect Pearls. You just take a bit of the powder and pounce it over top of the ink. The powder sticks to the sticky ink and leaves behind a gorgeous shine. You can add it randomly like I did with the snowflakes or in specific areas to color certain things like I did with the pinecones. I will warn you that whatever color you put down first will be the main color you so don’t go too crazy with the powder all over your background unless you want it to be all one color. Once you’re done adding the color take a clean brush and brush off all the excess powder to see the final background.

This will also worked with stamped images and die cuts as long as you stamp your images in the clear sticky ink or rub it over your dies. That is how I created the snowflakes and pine I used to accent my sentiments. The sentiments were popped up on a bit of foam for some extra dimension.

In order to finish off the cards I added a bit of white ink on top of the falling snow. I added it to a few areas of the pinecones and snow flakes too! A few rhinestones finished them off.
