As you can see I decided to bring the drama! I love black with a bright floral. It just makes my heart so very happy. Usually, I would copic color but since alcohol markers aren’t friendly with the Better Press ink I went for my next favorite option, watercolor.

I ink smooshed my distress ink down onto my work surface and then smooshed two different pieces of watercolor paper into the ink. I added water and ink until I was happy with the outcome. I chose to do my ink smooshing first because I knew I’d be using lots of water and I wanted to maintain the texture of my letterpress. If you’re using less water you can Better Press first.

Once my watercolor paper was completely dry I pressed my plates using the black ink. After cutting the images out with their coordinating dies I colored in the outside border with a black marker. I’ve used this trick before and it works just as well with pressed images.

In order to create interest in the background I treated black cardstock with some of the gorgeous cover plates Pinkfresh has. For some more shine I used the nested dies to cut out a black glitter diamond and hexagon. The last thing I did to the background is splatter some white copic ink to break up the black just slightly. It also ties in my sentiments.

For a bolder sentiment you can always hot foil those amazing sentiments. However, I chose to stick with my usual white on black. The letterpress look adds a fun texture element and the sentiment is just slightly softer. I actually really love the way they came out! A few pearls and some clear glitter finished the cards off perfectly.

I hope you’ll give this technique a try. It really makes those florals the star of the show.

I finally got around to editing the video. I hope you enjoy!

Thanks so much for stopping by! Happy Hopping!
