Tips for Coloring Two-Tone Flowers: Two New Stamp Sets

Hello Crafters!

It’s been awhile since I’ve blogged. I can’t believe were already into February! I’m ready for Spring though, winter in Ohio is meh at best lol.

Today I’m sharing three cards featuring one of my two new stamp sets for Honey Bee Stamps. Both sets have a very vintage vibe but vintage doesn’t have to mean desaturated color, distressed, and layered. Let’s take a look at the first set, Love is a Rose

Love is a Rose has three large images combining florals with iconic vintage imagery. I am a book lover to the core (My book club just read The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, SO. GOOD.) I can see using these for lots of different occasions and since Honey Bee included so many fantastic sentiments in the set there is something for everyone. The coordinating die set cuts out all images in the set including the sentiments.

The next set is Blooming View, this is the set used for all three of today’s cards.

Blooming View features three large rose clusters and an arch window. The window was drawn large enough to give the flowers a “climbing” look. However, the window isn’t something you need to use to make these flowers shine. All of them can be used individually or together for a completely different look. This set also has a coordinating die that cuts out all of the images and sentiments. My favorite part is the window die can cut out both the outside and inside of the frame which makes for endless possibilities!

If you’re ever looking for a specific set from me you can find all my stamps and coordinating dies over on the Original Illustrations page.

I knew when I sat down to color these guys that I wasn’t going to do just one color even though they were all growing on the same rose bush. In order to make it make sense I opted to do some a two-tone combination of both colors. This is really easy to do as long as you pick the right color combination!

I chose to do a magenta/peach combination. Usually, when it comes to blending Copic color families you can look at the last number and know they will blend together. A V05 will blend easily with a RV55 or an RV06. As long as the last number is close and they aren’t complimentary colors it should work. However there are always exceptions to the rules.

In this case I used an RV55 as my lightest magenta and a YR00 as my lightest peach. Why does this work? There’s a few reasons. The first is my peach is more of an orangey/pink and my magenta is more pink than purple. Pink and orange typically blend well together. The other reason is because the YR00 has little pigment and more colorless blender. This allows the YR00 to bleach out the RV55 while depositing it’s like peach pigment.

You can see the whole process for making these three cards as well as the two-tone coloring technique in action in the video below. The video is part of a Youtube Hop where you can win a $50 gift certificate to Honey Bee Stamps through February 5, 2024. So make sure to head over there to comment to be entered to win.

I hope you learned more than a little something! Thank you so much for stopping by and supporting me!

  • love your new sets Kelly. have a bag full of goodies on Honey Bee’s site. I really like the two tone coloring. will have to play with that combo and maybe some others. I know this may sound like a silly request, but could you demo how to get the rabbit hole design anti static tool to start. I can’t seem to get the powder to come out. I would appreciate it. when I looked at your stamp set page, I can’t figure out how I missed your birthday balloon set. looked for a video and didn’t see one. that’s probably how, anyway, thanks as always for sharing and all the inspiration.
