Love your latest video and sympathise with your doggie poop woes. Love that you’re looking after Molly. Our dogs mean the world to us, they are FAMILY.

I want to encourage you re Molly. I had my gall bladder removed last year and the side effects are horrendous, similar to what Molly is experiencing. Obviously humans and dogs are different and the reason for the consequences is different but I’m hoping that my info might help you find an answer.
1. My GP told me to stop losing weight. (I’ve lost 20kg in the past year and I can afford to lose more, it’s the uncontrolled weight loss and that any health hiccup can now – after a lifetime of struggling with weight gain – cause a sudden dramatic weight loss. So I can’t aim for “normal” weight for my bone structure, because one health issue could leave me underweight.) So My GP said I had to start eating fats and oils again and needed more protein (obvs the protein is part of Molly’s problem – no comments there). Any fats or oils had dire consequences. Olive oil is the least impactful. Based on my experience, IF you haven’t tried it for an extended period, like WEEKS, it might still be worthwhile trying again. And, yeah, I heard your story about the poop cleanup. I’m so glad my kids are adults and none of my animals has ever had THAT.
1 a) Also one other thing re fats and oils: the thing that helped me cope with fats and oils again is QUESTRAN. Maybe talk to your vet about a doggie equivalent? It’s a disgusting powder that you dissolve into a liquid (it doesn’t really have a taste except “power” and leaves my mouth coated in powder). Last time I stopped taking it, I thought I had salmonella! It’s complicated though: it binds nutrients and medications and – I suspect – calories, so it must be taken an hour after or 4-6 hours before food & meds. But it stops the “Mollies”. Maybe there’s a dog version?
2. My dog had a broken tooth so had to go on soft food for a while. OMG THE POOPS. Any significant change in diet seems to need a gradual conversion and time. She doesn’t have that problem any more, her tooth was fixed, and she is now on a mixed kibble and can diet.
3. as far as I can tell, ALL KIBBLE IS HIGH FAT. Even the “elderly labrador” kibble is 11% fat. I’ve learnt this because the vet said my dog is 20% over the healthy cholesterol level, and it’s the Royal Canin kibble’s fault; she was eating kibble that was 16 or 18% fat!!! I’ve switched to a 13% fat kibble (for Labradors 5+ years) and she’s on one can of wet food a day (about 5% fat from memory – much less anyway). And I’m thinking about trying to find healthier food. Royal Canin is an EXPENSIVE brand and they put who-knows-what in it including CRUDE ASH. (imagine the air turning blue here.) So I’m still wrestling with how to feed my dog and keep her healthy.

The last animal I lost was Smokey, a cat aged 14, I didn’t want to have her put to sleep but we made the appointment. And when she did not turn into the Incredible Hulk at the sight of the cat carrier, I couldn’t bear it. I carried her in my arms to the vet, which was another sign it was time. And after the needle, she started purring briefly. I’m crying while telling you this, and it’s been 8 years. The thing is, there is a time we need to let them go for their own good. But obviously now is not the time, so you need something to help you get through this patch of poop. Good luck.
